"Maa Saree" or the "Mother Saree" is one the most exclusive pieces in Odisha Handloom Sambalpuri Ikat Sarees since it was created and nominated for National Award few years back. This intricately crafted Sambalpuri Ikat Saree has Maa written all over it in more than 13 languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, Marathi, Odia, and many other languages. The body of the Handloom Silk saree has a Indigo base with Maa written in white threads all over the body. The Pallu of the saree is yellow perfectly in combination with the indigo saree. It has got "Maa" written in Odia language along with small flowers made out of indigo dye threads on it. The blouse of the Maa saree is yellow.
Sambalpuri Sarees of Odisha are known as the finest handloom. Sambalpuri fabrics reflect an original style of craft known as Baandha Traditionally, craftsmen created Baandhas with images of flora or fauna or with geometrical patterns. More recently, new types of Baandha depicting portrait, landscape and flower pods are being designed. Baandha fabric is created using a tie-dye technique. The yarns are tied according to the desired patterns to prevent absorption of dyes, and then dyed. The yarns or set of yarns so produced is called 'Baandha'.
